Actually making investments has become a lot easier in recent years. There are a host of different companies that investors can use to invest with – the easiest being a bank or a reputable stock broker.
The standard type of account would be a ‘dealing accounts’. However, individuals can often open tax-efficient accounts that are designed to encourage people to save money (such as an ISA or SIPP).
Before opening an account with an organization, it’s important for investors to know what types of investments are on offer. Some brokers only offer stocks, while others will offer all investment types.
When searching for investments, it is common to use a ‘ticker’ to find it in the system. Tickers are abbreviations that are unique to a particular company. For example, Coca-Cola’s ticker is KO.
